Week 13 Story: Bakasur, the Fat One

The Pandavas and Kunti were wandering around looking for shelter. How did they get here you might ask? Well you see, Duryodhan tried to kill them by planning to set the house they were staying at on fire. Luckily, Vidura warned the Pandavas about the scheme and the Pandavas were able to escape. It was not an easy journey. The Pandavas were walking through a dense forest. They were so hungry and so thirsty. Finally, they arrived in the city of Ekachakra. They disguised themselves as brahmins and begged for food on the streets. It seemed like their misfortunes were over once a scholar offered them shelter. The Pandavas and Kunti were able to relax a little. They got to eat, sleep, and rest. However, one day Kunti heard the scholar scream. She hurried to him. Kunti said, "What is the matter? Week 2 Reading Overview

I chose to read the Public Domain Edition of Ramayana. One of the main reasons why I picked this version over Narayana's Ramayana was that the Public Domain Edition of Ramayana was free. Another reason why is because of the audio. I think it will help me stay on track with my reading. After reading one paragraph I may want to stop and do something else, but with the soundtrack I think I would be more inclined to keep reading. Another reason why is because of the illustrations. The pictures I have seen so far in this class were so beautiful and I would like to see more. I am interested in  Vasantasena, A Dancer and Her Most Precious Jewel . I love a story with romance. The picture of the comic book also intrigued me. There is a beautiful lady with two men staring at her. Also, this story is supposed to be comedic and I can always enjoy a good laugh. Week 6 Lab: More TED Talk Videos

A New Theory of Human Intelligence  by Scott Barry Kaufman really hit home for me. Dr. Kaufman discusses the system that is in place that measures our intelligence. Tests such as IQ test do such things. However, due to these measurements it allows for some people to "slip through the cracks." He brings up his own experiences such as how he was diagnosed with a learning disability called central auditory processing disorder. He was held back and placed in special education. It was a teacher who saw his potential and inspired him to do more than what society labeled him to be. Therefore, when it was time for him to go to college he applied to Carnegie Mellon University. He wanted to research a new theory of human intelligence. He was rejected. His SAT scores were too low. However, Dr. Kaufman found another way to get into Carnegie Mellon University. He joined through the opera department. He was able to change his major later to psychology. He graduated and got his degree. He c...
